I must admit that I took some liberties with this painting. As I encountered these two giraffes in Namibia’s Etosha National Park, they were busily munching away on thorny acacia trees, which was amazing to me. They didn’t seem to notice the long thorns as they gripped the branches with their lips and stripped off what was there. In the painting, I chose to focus more on the seemingly oblivious look of these creatures as they stood behind the trees and watched what was occurring well below them.
